In the vein that all politics are local, we would posit that all ethanol politics are local. You may or may not have seen the proposal by Chicago alderman Ed Burke that mandates a larger share of ethanol be available for some of the larger gas stations in the city of Chicago. We know that the idiots in Congress are beholden to the ADM’s of the world, but we were surprised (even for Chicago politics) to hear an alderman become the spokesperson for the ethanol industry. This is particularly galling given the state of crude oil markets and the clear lack of need for additional gallons in the gasoline pool.
